“Doulas can empower women to achieve the best birth outcomes possible, and all outcomes — for births, infants, and mothers — seem to be affected more positively if support is provided by a doula in addition to the medical personnel. The doula focuses on individualized support before, during, and after birth; whereas nurses often are attending to several women in labor and responsible for many clinical and administrative tasks besides direct labor support”

Doula Services and Labor Support
What is a Birth Doula and why do you want one?
A Birth Doula offers continuous, non-medical, emotional and physical support for the birthing parents through pregnancy and birth. Here at The Doula’s Daughter our two main goals are that the birthing Mom feels confident and fully supported in her decision making throughout pregnancy and birth. And that the birthing partner feels that they were confidently able to support their loved one.
Doulas come equipped to physically support parents with comforting touches, breathing techniques, and gentle pressure to help relieve a mother’s discomfort. Emotionally, doulas encourage and empower moms to work through the birth process to find what feels best and most natural to the birthing mom.
According to the latest study by Bohren published a Cochrane review, research has found that continuous support through labor showed:
- 39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean with the use of continuous doula support
- 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth with continuous doula support
- 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
- Shorter labors by almost an hour on average
- 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score
- 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
